Less is more ... rather than overwhelming you with volumes of travel tips, here is a specific list of exclusive recommendations with Mr & Mrs Crystal's stamp of approval.

Ksar Char Bagh

A Moorish masterpiece set in 4 hectares of Persian-style gardens in the heart of the Palmeraie area, Ksar Char Bagh accommodates 26 privileged guests. It is a private palace modelled on part of the Alhambra Palace in Granada with understated luxury and overstated sophistication. You will feel downright spoilt in your spacious Harim-suite surrounded by snow-capped Atlas mountains and a palm tree fringed pool.

Looking for the ultimate luxury? Auction off your first born and check into the oriental-style Murano in exotic Palmeraie. Each room offers cool canopy beds, warm fireplaces and breathtaking terrace views of palm tree parkland, the Atlas mountains and the desert. Sexy fashionistas go gaga for the mischievous red swimming pool with the house DJ spinning sun-drenched ‘Murano Remix’ tunes from an island in the middle of the pool. A true oasis.

Riad el Cadi

Riad el Cadi is one of our favourite picks of the flourishing riad crop. It consists of seven traditional houses that interconnect via maze-like courtyards, stairwells, secret alcoves and lovers’ balconies. Though meals of choice can be taken anywhere within the riad (other than the hammam!), the prize is delivered on the extensive roof terraces, where tents, deckchairs and orange trees sprawl over the landings. Luxurious Riad el Cadi is exotic, enchanting and exquisite.

Riad El Fenn

A short walk from the bustle of Djmaa el Fna, behind fortress-like walls and a beautiful blue door exists a world of wonders. Riad El Fenn, the brainchild of Vanessa Branson, comprises an abundance of private spaces and nine individually decorated suites, some embellished with cosy fireplaces. Guests will be drawn to the sprawling roof terrace comprising a rose garden, day beds and open air plunge pool, and a magical view of the town and Atlas mountains. This is a sleek, chic and very boutique riad, which is total “fenn” (meaning “cool” in local speak).

Riad Farnatchi

A medina fantasy created from a triplet of existing riads, Riad Farnatchi pampers well-heeled guests and romantic couples. It is an oasis of decadence and intimacy exuding a sense of charming seclusion, especially on the lush rooftop terrace and by the glistening interior pool. Originally conceived as a family holiday retreat, it is no surprise that Farnatchi feels like a beautiful private home. The magnetism can also be felt in its exquisitely decorated rooms and beautiful white-marbled private hammam.

what we think

Indulge in a sensory explosion in Marrakech. The markets are a maze of jewellery stalls, brightly coloured homewares, underground carpet emporiums and pyramids of spices. In the adjacent old city square Jmaa el Fnaa, the best place to enjoy the view of the city is on a rooftop café sipping fresh local mint tea. However as night falls, the square transforms into a street circus full of performers, snake charmers and monkeys, and the square is enveloped by thick smoke as hundreds of stalls offer freshly cooked Moroccan delicacies. The show continues at the decadent palace-style restaurants where you will feel truly regal devouring each of the 10 courses. The majestic theme continues as you retreat at the end of the day to your magnificent riad, where behind an inconspicuous door lies an exotic oasis.
